Townmaker LABS

To support community developers, entrepreneurs, and small-scale builders, Gary Townmakers hosts regularly scheduled workshops that empower participants with the knowledge and tools to drive inclusive community revitalization. Sessions draw on technical assistance from a variety of community partners, local policy and permitting experts, and the 12 Steps to Town Making from Neighborhood Evolution. Since 2018, J's Breakfast Club at 2601 Broadway in Gary has been our primary host location.

At a recent meetup of the Gary Townmakers, participants engaged in a discussion about challenges Gary residents have with accessing fresh, healthy food. This issue was raised in light of recent, temporary health department closures of local food establishments, and the transportation issues some residents face in seeking out better food choices.
